Things are not always as they seem.

Our impression of things in life are not always what we perceive them to be. This morning, around the breakfast table, we were discussing the economic instability that we are facing as a country. This brought back a profound experience that I had when we first came to Zambia.

I needed some cash from the bank. This was before the days of ATMs. So first thing, as soon as the bank opens I am there. I really do not like standing in queues! I fill out the necessary forms and head to the counter to meet the smiling teller. She looks at the cash withdrawal slip and hesitates for a moment. My first reaction is that I have made a mistake on the slip so I ask if all is ok. She then looks at me and says that they do not have any cash in the bank at this time but if I would be ever so kind and take a seat until someone comes to make a deposit. My mouth dropped. I thought banks always had cash!! Well needless to say it was a slow morning but I did get my cash eventually.

Life with all its up and downs is very much like this. As we face each trial, usually that trial blinds our perception of the rest of our life. Yet in reality it should not when we compare it to all of life. I think this is why the Lord reminds us not to worry, as He knows life from the right perspective.Oh so hard to follow!!! Yet so right!!

“ Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?”

Matthew 6:25
